On Thursday February 19th, 53 year old Everard Walker was murdered by Hartford Pig Alexander Clifford during a response to a 211 mental health call.
Everard’s family contacted 211 for medical help after he ran out of medication, which they said he took so he could eat and sleep. They told 211 it wasn’t a crisis, that he wasn’t a danger to himself or others. Yet 2 social workers from the Capitol Region Mental Health Center still asked police for assistance.
The family’s lawyer, Ken Krayeske, stated, “They did not call 911 because they did not trust police to handle this situation, nor did they think police should be involved in a mental health situation.” Throughout the hour long interaction Thursday morning, the police presence grew from 2 to 11 officers! During a press conference this past Wednesday, Everard’s wife Linda Gray said, “We wanted an evaluation. We did not call police. We wanted a doctor.”
At first several pigs entered Everard’s apartment then retreated when they thought he’d throw a pot of boiling water on them. This is the same excuse made by Springfield pig Sean Grayson when he killed Sonya Massey 2 years ago in Illinois. By this point the family had asked cops several times to leave and were trying to deal with the situation on their own.
Then several cops suddenly bum-rushed into his apartment after Everard tried to close the door on them. As several cops barged through the door, they started putting hands on Everard and his 2 kids before Everard took out a knife. Clifford then fired several shots and killed Everard in front of his wife and 2 kids.
This is a man who was going through mental distress and several pigs charged into his apartment after being told to leave several times. What did the cops think was going to happen? Why didn’t the police or 211 listen to the family? Why was the most lethal use of force immediately deployed?
The Media Continues to Vilify Victims of Police Brutality
Within hours of this police murder, local news media such as WFSB and Hartford Courant labeled Everard as a “Knife-holding Suspect” and “Knife-Wielding man.” They are trying to set the narrative that this man deserved to die, taking attention away from the police who escalated the situation. If HPD had just left, Everard would be alive today getting his meds, getting help from a doctor.
