On March 15, 2025, months before Jonathon Ross murdered Renee Good, Killer DHS pigs shot and killed Ruben Ray Martinez in South Padre Island.
DHS attempted to cover up the murder of Ruben for almost a year.
Now unsealed documents have revealed that Federal and State authorities failed to publicly disclose DHS’s involvement in the shooting until a Freedom of Information Act Request forced their hand. Ruben’s family has sought justice since his death, only recently learning from the news that DHS was involved in his murder.
Ruben was celebrating his 23rd birthday when he encountered DHS and shot him dead. He was a US citizen, worked at an Amazon warehouse, and had never had any prior run-ins with law enforcement.
According to the internal DHS report, Ruben stopped his car at the instruction of multiple DHS agents. The agents surrounded the young man’s car and ordered him to exit the vehicle. The internal report claims that Ruben “accelerated forward,” and a DHS agent was struck by the vehicle. At that point, Ruben Ray Martinez’s murderer “fired multiple defensive shots” through Ruben’s driver-side window “to protect himself, his fellow agents, and the general public.” (sound familiar?) Ruben was taken to a hospital in Brownsville, where he was pronounced dead.
Ruben Ray Martinez’s murder was kept a secret until a FOIA revealed DHS’s involvement. The two-page report redacts both Ruben’s and the killer pig’s names, but the description of the victim is congruent with Ruben’s. According to the watch dog organization that filed the FOIA, unreleased videos show a series of events that differs from the official report.
This is another example of what is rapidly becoming DHS’s MO: firing shots at a trapped or fleeing vehicle – which is explicitly against DHS policy – and then crafting a narrative that justifies the cold-blooded murder and shields the killer agent from prosecution.
In the wake of this atrocity and other violent acts by ICE on the streets and in detention centers, we must not be fooled by the clowns (aka politicians) calling for reform and ‘better training’ for ICE agents. Even abolishing ICE will fall short of ending this violence because it is not enough to be rid of ICE (which formed in 2002), we need to be done with the entire Deportation Machine that enables cruelty and violence by its very nature.
This killing and cover up lays bare that Homeland Security agents are not motivated by their own policies, they are not accountable to them, and given the opportunity, they cover up their actions to avoid heat from the People. Therefore, the demand of this movement is not to give agents better training or turn them into a less visually threatening force, or even to ‘defund’ them, it is to jail killer ICE agents, to end the deportations, end the repression of protestors and free all the kidnaped.
Ruben should still be here, anticipating his 24th birthday; instead, due to this campaign of terror with oppressive roots dating back to long before Trump, Ruben Ray Martinez, Dr. Linda Davis, Alex Pretti, Renee Good, Keith Porter, and countless others are gone. Not a single killer in these recent killings has been held accountable.
