The masses need to demand justice for Luis Francisco Manzo, and demand that the cops who tried to murder him be sent to jail.
On December 8th, 28-year old Luis Francisco Manzo was shot six times and nearly killed by South SF police. He was in the hospital in critical condition for weeks.
Body cam footage from SSFPD shows Luis running away from officers, who then pursued him and shot him six times.
Around 5am on the 8th, Luis’s parents contacted SSFPD to report that their son was experiencing a mental health crisis, including symptoms of psychosis and suicidal ideation. Luis’s mother explicitly informed officers, both on the phone and as soon as they arrived on the scene, that her son was in severe mental distress and that she needed help to de-escalate the situation.
When police arrived, they ordered Luis to come out of the apartment, and Luis started walking towards the door with his hands up. Upon seeing the four cops posted up outside the building, he got scared and ran — a reasonable reaction not only for someone in the midst of a mental health crisis, but for anyone who rightly understands that the cops can shoot and kill for any reason they see fit. When Luis turned around and started walking towards one of the officers, he was immediately gunned down by two of the pigs on the scene, officers Brendan Hart and Martin Corona. Six of the shots fired hit him in the stomach, neck, and limbs. Luis is lucky to be alive; make no mistake, the officers who shot him surely did not want him to survive.
The press release and body cam just put out by SSFPD follows the same template of cheap justification and blatant lies we see after every instance of police brutality. And though they didn’t mention it in their statement, the pigs in charge at South SF PD started working on this justification campaign almost immediately after shooting and nearly killing Luis. Just hours after they shot her child six times right in front of her, the PD showed up back at Luis’s mom’s door with a warrant to search their apartment. After digging through their belongings and turning up nothing, the pigs decided to take a small bottle of pills “as evidence for investigative purposes”.
We know that the pigs have a long history of falsifying, tampering with, and misconstruing “evidence” to retroactively criminalize their victims and justify gunning down people in the street. None of this would have been possible without the support of San Mateo County Judge [insert name], who signed this bullshit search warrant no questions asked. It is people like him at every level that help the pigs get away with brutalizing and murdering our people. He and every other judge like him–not to mention every media outlet, lawyer, and politician that jumps into action to defend these killers with a badge–should be identified as accomplices and treated as such.
Bay Area pigs have murdered 8 people since August, nearly killed at least 4 others, and brutalized countless more. There have been 3 police shootings in the Bay in the past few months where officers shot at people simply for having an ‘edged weapon’, whether a small kitchen knife or a pair of scissors. In November, they shot at and almost murdered a man in San Francisco who threw a plastic water bottle their way. SSFPD in particular has been on a shooting spree — in April and May of 2025, they shot and killed two people.
Pigs in every poor Black and brown neighborhoods have been given the power to execute innocent people in cold blood without facing any consequences. But we do not have to accept another killer cop getting away with near-murder in our streets. We do not have to accept the lie that SSFPD pigs ‘did all they could’ and that shooting Luis was the only viable option. All the time, we see heavily armed cops manage to apprehend mass shooters without giving them a paper cut. On the other hand, we see brave civilians, like those in Bondi Beach, put their lives on the line to protect people in ways that the pigs never have and never will. If a civilian armed with nothing but their love for life and for the people can take down an active shooter with a rifle, why do we continue to let the pigs have their cake and eat it too — justifying their murder in the name of “self defense” and getting called heroes for it?
