A letter from participants of the October 22nd National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality inside Cook County Jail
When we dare to struggle, we dare to win, and we either STAND for something of FALL for anything. To all the men and women apart of this revolutionay struggle, remain resilient and dedicated to the mission. I’m in Division 8 RTU-4B and we are pushing the boundaries and taking a stand as a unit and demanding that the oppressive conditions change. We organized and took the dayroom hostage as shift was changing, we determined that particular time was their weakness and we could be most effective with the hostage. They couldn’t do any roll call and all Correctional Officers reported to 4B. We demanded officers stop the excessive use of force and the officers who have used excessive force be held accountable, we demanded that the commissary and phone call prices be lowered, and for the extortion stop. We demanded that we stop being forced to live in unsanitary conditions, and demanded 40 grievances. This was an affective take over, although there was several cans of mace pointed at us, no one was sprayed, and we all remained together and focused. All of us encourage all of you who are apart of this revolutionary struggle on whatever division to join us in solidarity, unite, and organize, and follow through with your demands. When we dare to struggle, we dare to win.”
