On August 2nd, 2022, Las Cruces Police Officer Brad Lunsford, a white man, shot Presley Eze, a Black man, in the back of the head at a gas station. Lunsford and LCPD left Presley Eze’s dead body lying on the ground in the heat for eight hours. Only 0.1% of killer cops are ever found guilty of murder or manslaughter, but the footage and witness testimony were so damning that on February 13th 2025, after about two weeks of trial and two hours of jury deliberation, Officer Brad Lunsford became one of those few.

Even though Lunsford had been found guilty of manslaugher, after only a few weeks of confinement, he was released on a bond to await his sentencing. This continues to today. His lawyers filed multiple motions claiming the trial was unfair to Lunsford because his lawyers didn’t figure out one of the jurors has strong feelings against racism in policing and has writen articles about this topic until it was too late to dismiss them from the jury. Lunsford’s supporters have made death threats against this juror, so their identity has not been released. Nevertheless, on Friday September 19th Judge James Foy hearing the arguments from Lunsford’s lawyers regarding these motions. It is deeply perverse that a cop with more than 80 uses of force during his career, who killed a man in broad daylight and cold blood, may be allowed a second trial and even be able to walk away scot-free.

Regardless of who the jury is, Brad Lunsford killed Presley Eze, shooting him inches away from the back of his brain. He didn’t use tasers, he didn’t use non-lethal force. He pointed the gun at the back of Presley’s head and shot to kill. Brad Lunsford is absolutely guilty of manslaughter and is trying to use his badge to get away with it. The police murder people every day in the United States and go back to normal life almost every time, while the family of the victim is left beyond heartbroken. We don’t care who the jury was for Lunsford’s trial, or the legal precedent that would afford him, or not afford him a new trial. We know he is guilty and deserves punishment for his crime. Lunsford is trying to play the victim and gain sympathy for his crimes. He has raised tens of thousands of dollars for himself and brought out cops and bootlickers to support him on social media and pack the courts for his trial and hearing. Despite a great deal of the public being against Lunsford, those who do support him came out in dozens and spent all day in court showing their support. If there is another trial, we must show that the people stand against killer cops and want to see them behind bars. We must pack the court for Presley Eze, it is the least he deserves.
