JUNE 10TH, 2025
4000 members of the California National Guard have been called to Los Angeles. You have not been called here to protect the people of LA. You have not been called here to defend the constitution. You have been called to LA to defend Donald Trump’s shocktroops, ICE thugs who are covering their faces while terrorizing millions of immigrants across Southern California. These ICE thugs are kidnapping peoples friends, loved ones, and neighbors. These ICE thugs are disregarding basic principles of due process and right to council. Now they want you to defend them.
Will you betray your conscience for Donald Trump? Will you put your body on the line so ICE can kidnap someone’s father? Will you open fire into a crowd of protesters? What will you tell your mother tonight? Are you gonna shoot protesters and make her ashamed, or are you gonna stand up to oppression and make her proud? Are you gonna betray your people and stand with ICE, or are you gonna betray ICE and stand with the people?
In 1968, 43 black soldiers refused to be deployed against their fellow citizens who were protesting the Democratic National Convention. As innocent people were being violently incinerated overseas, masses of people from across the country joined together in Chicago to demand an end to the war. They were met with vicious brutality from Chicago police. But when the state tried to mobilize the soldiers of Fort Hood against their own people, 43 brave soldiers refused. Although they were later court-martialed and sentenced to three-to-six months of hard labor, they stand as a shining example of struggle in the face of repression.
These orders are unjust and immoral, and you have an obligation to refuse them! Put down your riot shield, and stand with the protesters. Refuse deployment to stand with ICE kidnappers. There is a proud tradition of members of the military, just like you, refusing orders. Thousands of GI’s refused to participate in a war of aggression against Vietnam in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Members of the National Guard refused to be used to crush protests against police killings in 2020. Now it’s your turn to decide how history will remember you.
